There’s a new space camera! But it’s not in space, it’s in Chile - and it’s part of their brand new telescope. You can read about the whole thing here. But of course, I know the everyone’s burning desire and that’s to see the goods:
Particularly tickling to me is the alleged objectives of this new telescope camera, including scanning the skies for previously unknown asteroids, dark matter, and “Planet 9.” Planet Nine sounds so mysterious, especially when you consider we had a planet nine and then some astronomer made up a term, classifying Pluto as a “dwarf planet,” because Pluto apparently slept with the astronomer’s girlfriend or something. Not to mention he wasn’t creative enough to come up with a term without the word “planet” in the name, fucking up elementary student’s solar system models for years.
ANYWAY…
Planet 10 became Planet Nine after all that and you can read about that rigamaroll here, though if you ask me, Pluto is still getting the shaft in all this.
What Else to Read
There will always be porn. And I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be more regulation within its boundaries to provide safe conditions and qualifications for all those involved, but to ban it is a fool’s errand. Though I guess it makes good headlines in the bedrooms of people who hate watch it for education purposes.
This is not another sky-is-falling AI link. In fact it’s the opposite. It makes the argument that AI is not at all what it’s cracked up to be, and in fact basically snake oil. Now, before grabbing up the pom poms, it does suggest in that salesmanship of said snakeoil, it’s basically doing just as much damage as though it were real. So yeah… we live in a we’re al fucked society.
What to Watch
Let’s push aside the fact that Paul Blart Mall Cop is now a fucking killer in this new movie Guns Up, and focus on the piss poor marketing by revealing Chritina Ricci’s character, Killer Blart’s wife/partner (which, maybe the movie’s biggest stretch?) is a deadly killer as well. Why reveal that? Is that getting extra ass in the seats?
40 Acres is gaining some steam and buzz out there and so it’s gotta be put on the watchlist if you’re into post apocalyptic stories…
A new animated short based on one of the earliest Stephen King short stories, Here There Be Tygers…
I can’t tell you how to watch the full thing, but I will keep my eyes and ears open in case I find out. But this is cool and apparently one of a few movies created to introduce horror to children. I know that sounds kinda weird and bad but I think it’s great. The world aint all that and if we’ve found a creative wading pool to get kids to start understanding that, I think they will be better off.
What to Listen To
Saw 28 Years Later last night, and aside from the visual choices made throughout, perhaps the biggest takeaway was the score/soundtrack created by Young Fathers, A Gas Station Cuisine favorite. It shepherds the audience through the movie, sometimes better, sometimes worse than the shepherds in the actual movie, but then again - that’s the highest mark I personally can give it. I checked the song titles and I see no spoilers and it’s a fun listen without the movie so, go on…
And legit if you’re unfamiliar with Young Fathers, get familiar:
Jam of the Day
Neil Young still out there giving it his all…
