Uh, The Last of Us last night? I believe I had that.
Revenge is a helluva drug. I’ve never played the video games so I can’t tell you what’s going to come next, but I believe we’ll stay in the vengeance business. As is usual with zombie parables, they’re never the worst monsters.
What to Watch
Are you ready for a movie that seemingly dives deep into our COVID years? What if I told you it was from Ari Aster?
It’s not new (2023) and not heralded in any way that I can see, but it involves time travel and Judy Greer, two boxes that I love checking off. And it’s on Hulu so it’s pretty available…
A samurai western is coming to a screen near you in about a month, and it stars Tim Roth. More boxes checked…
No idea what Him is about, other than I suspect collegiate sports and what it takes to get to the highest level. I see the comparisons of college sports and cults here, and I hope it explores that a bit, but I can’t say with certainty it will. But the trailer definitely grabbed my attention:
What to Read
The growing UFO (UAP) tourism of Japan.
I saw Sinners this weekend. What a beautiful, messy film that I encourage everyone to go see. I wish the trailers weren’t so hell bent on giving away most of the film, but you gotta get asses in the seats and no one trusts the idea of “Movie!” as a promotion anymore, so this is what we’ve got. The reason I bring this us though is because Ryan Coogler, the creator/director is now off and running on an X-Files reboot and after seeing Sinners I’m not sure there would be a better person suited for the job, and that includes Chris Carter.
Can’t think of a better time to crank up Conclave and get an idea of what is about to happen in the Vatican City in the next few days. But here’s a cheat sheet of the process if you don’t have Peacock.
What to Listen To
I want to put together a deeper post about how people find new music, and whether people still actively seek out new music. And I don’t just mean new releases, I mean music in general, because if you didn’t already know… there’s a lot out there.
For example, I just stumbled across this, from a band who was maybe slightly big in the 70s but also… not one you’re going to immediately dial up:
And then I got this one served up to me:
And while stylistically maybe these two songs share some DNA, they’re also different enough to most likely not show up on the same playlist, and that’s what I find so interesting and cool about exploring the various ways of finding new music.
