It’s time for Top Gun on the road… it’s time for F1!
This will be an interesting ride for Mr. Pitt and the makers of this movie because there are so many variables working with and against this movie. I have no idea how long it will be in theaters, because I’m sure Apple is chomping at the bit to get it on their streaming platform. I also am unsure how American audiences will take to this because F1 isn’t football and so do people want to go see a sport they really don’t understand? But maybe the inclusion of Brad Pitt counters some of that.
I’ve heard the racing scenes are top notch, but the story is pretty ho hum average. But, to be fair, that’s pretty much the same old story for every movie these days. Anyway, I do hope it’s good!
For some counter programming watch a doll fuck shit up!
I didn’t see the original and I’m not sure this sequel lives up to it or not. It seems deliciously incomprehensible but I don’t think it’s intent was gritty realism to begin with. Bigger, badder and sexier is always a great blueprint for Hollywood sequels, and to that end they’ve aced it.
Apparently Ice Road: Vengeance is a sequel to The Ice Road, a movie that exists and is not completely made up. I know this because both the original and its sequel star Liam Neeson, and it’s fun watching how this guy became the modern day Charles Bronson right before our eyes. And good for him! I have no intention of seeing Ice Road: Vengeance but only because I haven’t seen Ice Road and fear I would miss some of the subtle nuance the original surely set up.
Now, is this movie any good? I think after watching the trailer we all know the answer to that. I don’t think it’s a great sign when you have to ADR in the trailer - but that’s just me.
The Smaller Screen
We got Squid Game wrapping things up. We got The Bear we can binge all weekend, and we’ve got the new show Smoke finally coming out…
Now apparently, according to TV critic Alan Sepinwall, viewers have to slog through two episodes before the show reveals its true intent. Will viewers do that? I have no idea what the “twist” may be but if I didn’t know it was coming, would I sit through the first two episodes? I don’t know. I do know that with the rather popular Schitt’s Creek, I watched a few episodes before bailing. And people told me I should stick with it because it gets good in season two. And uh, nope - not gonna slog through something like six hours to get to the good stuff, no matter how hilarious it is. This is only a two hour slog I guess so maybe I’ll push through. Your mileage may vary.
I’ll keep you posted though and let you know if it’s worth it. But if it’s the inspector becomes the arsonist I’m gonna blow something up.
