What are you watching this weekend?
Honestly, from an entertainment standpoint, the weekend feels a little limp. Sure, you’ve got the Oscars Sunday night which is great, only it’s really not, since it feels like an Oppenheimer anticlimactic wave is going to overtake the telecast. If you’ve yet to see Poor Things, you can catch it on Hulu now. And The Gentleman, a series based on the Guy Ritchie movie of the same name is on Netflix and is apparently… good? Color me shocked.
Ricky Stanicky looks big and dumb, but I mention it because of John Cena who was awesome in The Peacemaker and so maybe he can capture some of that and make this a worthwhile watch? No idea, but this DOES give me the opportunity to share The Peacemaker’s opening credit scene…
Other than that… First Time Female Director has some potential and plenty of comedic cameos that might make it fun. Also it’s on the Roku channel so it’s free. The Signal looks to be Netflix’s answer to Apple TV’s Constellation and another entry into weird space mood thrillers? I have no idea. Also, it’s German, so there’s all that. Dune 2 is still out there in theaters as well as Love Lies Bleeding, which got good buzz coming out of Sundance.
Collin Ferrell getting that Apple bag
Not this weekend, but coming in April, Collin Ferrell is doing his part to keep noir alive. Apple TV’s strategy seems to be” hire big stars and put them in high-end genre pieces and you know what? Not a terrible strategy. Looking forward to this one.
The argument that we are truly alone
It’s very chic to be into UFOs right now and there’s seemingly a bunch of evidence that is helping to get Congress members. involved in the phenomenon of extraterrestrial beings.
But we should maybe hold the phone on the idea. Look, I’m not saying this article is the be all end all to the idea of other worlds contacting us, I’m just sharing it as the other side of the debate. I was pretty into UFOs when I was younger, and no matter what I read these days can completely shed that fascination, but I also try to be a somewhat objective and realize that these days there should be more conclusive proof out there if our planet was indeed being visited by other beings. YMMV. And that’s ok. The truth is out there.
I might do a deeper dive on this subject at a later date. It’s just too juicy!
The’ve gotta come up with a better name for the operation
I kinda knew meat smuggling was a thing, but in a cutsey, cool, hey let’s watch The Freshman kinda way. Not in the way that’s spelled out in this article. There’s a lot going on in it, way too much for me to comment much further other than to say “Operation Go Vegan” is much better than “Thunder.”
